If you suspect your child may have a substance addiction, here are some of the common signs to watch out for:
Mood shifts: withdrawn or depressed, silent, hostile, unable to focus, sudden loss of inhibition, unusually hyperactive
Changes in behaviour: locks doors, secretive about whereabouts; drastic changes in relationships with family and friends, avoid eye contact, changes in sleep pattern
Problems at school: absenteeism, sudden disinterest, drop in grades
Physical health issues: frequently sick, lack of energy and motivation, weight loss or gain, red eyes, unusually clumsy
Neglected appearance: lack of interest in clothing or looks, poor hygiene
Money issues: sudden requests for money without explanation; money or items missing from your home
