For many people the decision on when to start a family comes down to stage of life and financial ability. However, the decision may be impacted by several other factors such the desire to continue in education or progress further along the career path.

We asked respondents to our survey if their career impacted on their decision to start a family.

Of the 40% of respondents who believe their career did impact on their decision to start a family, financial ability to raise a child and the desire to progress their career were key determinants in their decision.

When compared by age, 42% of those who believe their career has impacted their decision to start a family are in the age group 26-35.
Financial worries are one of the main sources of concern for 70% of this age group.

Having children is very expensive, the decision to start a family was dictated by the stage my career was at.
